Week 2

We've had a great start to the year so far.  Students are working on "All About Me" glogs, which are online posters through the website glogster edu.  They can add more detail if they want to login from home (the link is posted on the left hand side).

In math, we are reviewing place value.  Grade 4s are working up to 10,000 and Grade 5s up to 100,000.  Today we learned how ancient Egyptians wrote numbers and realized how lucky we are to have a base 10 system with numerals.

In language, we are steadily increasing our reading stamina during "Read to Self" times and we are learning strategies to select good fit books.  Students should use these questions when selecting books at home or at school.

In French, students are preparing for an upcoming test on October 1st.  Grade 4s will need to know their colours and numbers up to 20 and Grade 5s will learn up to 39.  Mme McConville is also asking students to bring in pictures of themselves for a French project.

To prepare for upcoming social studies lessons, students should start practicing labeling the provinces, capitals and oceans on a map.

  1. wow, I'm sure glad we moved to a system with numerals to represent our numbers. Working with the base ten numbers is so much easier and makes working with the metric system a joy.

  2. It's so true! One of the students commented that he's glad he doesn't have to use ancient Egyptian pics to do long division!
